Nutrisco Identifies New Opportunities for the Frozen Fruit Industry Following Visit to Peru

The visit made it possible to analyze the growth of the Peruvian market, especially in categories such as mango, strawberry, pineapple and blueberry, while also strengthening the search for strategic partners to supply international channels.

Nutrisco carried out a field visit to Peru with the aim of gaining firsthand insight into the current development and future outlook of the frozen fruit industry in the country, identifying relevant opportunities for sourcing, innovation and the creation of new products aimed at global customers.

Currently, Peruvian fruit production is mainly focused on fresh fruit exports, while the frozen segment still represents a smaller share of the market. In this context, Nutrisco sees significant growth potential, particularly considering the diversity of fruits available in Peru, the increase in agricultural investment and the opportunity to complement capabilities with Chile in order to respond to increasingly demanding markets.

During the visit, the company was able to analyze the performance of different varieties, including mango, strawberry, pineapple and blueberry. In the case of mango, strawberry and pineapple, these products already have a more mature and stable frozen industry, with applications in purees, retail formats, juices and other food solutions. Blueberries, meanwhile, appear as a category with medium-term expansion potential, although today they remain strongly focused on the fresh market due to the commercial advantages associated with their harvest windows.

Peru as a Strategic Partner for International Development

One of the main focuses of the visit was to assess how Peru’s growth can contribute to Nutrisco’s sourcing strategy and long-term projection. For the company, the country represents a commercial partner with relevant prospects, especially due to its geographic location, cost efficiency, agricultural development and availability of suppliers that operate under food safety standards, regulations and certifications aligned with the requirements of the international food industry.

“Peru is consolidating its position as an increasingly relevant origin for the frozen fruit sector. Its agricultural growth, the diversity of available products and the possibility of working with suppliers that meet high standards open opportunities to develop joint solutions, both to supply our plant and to advance in packaging from origin for international customers,”

said Cristián Larraín, Commercial and Marketing Manager at Nutrisco.

The Peruvian market has also shown progress in planted areas, new alternatives and productive improvements. In recent years, producers have incorporated more efficient varieties in terms of yield, post-harvest performance, flavor, firmness and shelf life, with the aim of competing with higher-quality formats for global buyers.

Likewise, Peru has strengthened its competitiveness through investments in logistics and infrastructure, together with projects aimed at expanding productive capacity in areas with water limitations. These advances, combined with shorter transit times to certain markets and competitive costs, reinforce the country’s appeal as a complementary origin for the frozen fruit industry.

At the same time, the visit also made it possible to identify challenges that could affect the future development of these categories. These include the effects of climate phenomena on agricultural production, the logistics chain and infrastructure, as well as political instability factors that could impact investment and sector growth.
